The Biodiversity Monitoring System allows standards and food companies to monitor the biodiversity performance of certified farms and/or supplying farmers. The monitoring is based on 60 indicators with high relevance for the protection and creation of potential for biodiversity and the reduction of negative impacts.
The indicators cover also the Basic-Set of Biodiversity Criteria agreed on by the association “Food for Biodiversity”, an initiative to improve the biodiversity performance of the German food sector.
Standards, food companies and cooperatives have a protected access to include data of their certified or associated farms or suppliers. The results provided by the BMS are based on aggregated data sets; the indicators are grouped in nine clusters. Users have the possibility to filter the results by country, region, type of production and the farm size. They can select all or certain clusters to present the monitoring results.
